Donner Lake is a quaint lake located in Truckee with a ton of history relating to the Wild-West, Trans-continental railroad and Donner Party. There are many public docks to jump or fish off of and be sure to head up Old Hwy 40.

The Thunderbird Lodge is the Castle of the lake and rich in history! I highly recommend taking a tour of the lodge during your stay.

The Donner Memorial State Park and Emigrant Trail Museum honor one of the darkest moments in American pioneering. Here, you'll find a great stone pedestal commemorating the Donner Party, the legendary pioneers who fell victim to the harsh Sierra Nevada winter in 1846 to 1847. The party (originally consisting of 89 members) was en route to California when their wagon train encountered a severe snow storm.
