Khlong Lat Mayom is nothing like the huge touristy Damnoen Saduak or the crowded Amphawa but really has the charm and authenticity of a local market and you might be one of the only foreigners around. You can spend a couple of hours here then move to the largest Taling Chan floating market, just a couple of kilometers away. Everybody love floating markets - Thai and tourists alike - you just have to see how locals flock to the place on weekends! Local market culture has deep roots in Thai daily life and eating out is not a special event as it is in western culture: it's fun, cheap and casual, and Thai food has so many variations it can be a travelling theme on its own.

Khlong Lat Mayom 浮動市集

You can spend a couple of hours here then move to the largest Taling Chan floating market, just a couple of kilometers away. Everybody love floating markets - Thai and tourists alike - you just have to see how locals flock to the place on weekends! If you don't want to eat on the floor, you will find some restaurants with plastic tables and chairs near the railway bridge. Restaurants usually have a small illustrated menu so ordering is not too challenging. Worst-case scenario just point at what you'd like on your neighbour's table. Four of five of these giant prawns cost around 200 THB and taste great!

If you’re looking for floating markets in Bangkok then Wat Sai is only about a half hour drive from the city centre. The old floating market here was a thriving centre for locals to gather at, and a popular tourist sight, until the construction of new roads led to the site being abandoned. Wat Sai wasn’t that easy to shut down though and its recent resurgence has brought life back to the area. You can take a trip along a canal to enter the market and the trip itself is eye opening. You get to see Thai life close up as it unfolds before your eyes. Once you reach the market itself the food is the stand out experience with plenty of fresh local produce for sale.

It is easily one of the most stunning temples in Bangkok, not only because of its riverside location, but also because the design is very different to the other temples you can visit in Bangkok. Wat Arun (or temple of the dawn) is partly made up of colourfully decorated spires and stands majestically over the water.
