It won Scottish pub of the year a few years ago and still gets better every time we go there, which we do, a lot. Great fresh food, they have their own fishing boat, brilliant bar area, quite often music, usually open fires and always twinkly lights.

It is only 4 miles away by road, and directly across the loch if you arrived by boat. Moor at the Pier below Lochawe Station. Totally revamped last year, great views, good bar and food (inside and out on good days)

Great restaurant for lunch, cafe next door, good shop, great garden centre, secret walk up the back to a double storey tree house. Take a capuccino and walk through the tiny graveyard, follow the track for 15 minutes, sit on the bench or up the tree house. Stunning.

Sightseeing
If you are interested in knowing Ben Cruachan , the mountain opposite the Bird Hide is hollow inside and responsible for the surges in electricity when you turn on the kettle at home at half time, then this place will fascinate you. Cafe too.

INverawe Smokehouse. The best smoked trout in Scotland (and much nicer than the salmon). Good cafe and shop. Fishing lessons on the ponds available and fly fishing on the River Awe in season. Good walks round the country park and great exhibition, only 2 rooms, perfect size!

INverawe Smokehouse. The best smoked trout in Scotland (and much nicer than the salmon). Good cafe and shop. Fishing lessons on the ponds available and fly fishing on the River Awe in season. Good walks round the country park and great exhibition, only 2 rooms, perfect size!

Fyne Ales. Delicious beers, tours, shop, small cafe and usually Highland cows wandering about. Lovely spot

Arts & Culture
KIlmartin Glen, where the ancient Kings of Scotland were crowned. Amazing place, standing stones everywhere, great museum and cafe, worth the drive as you can wiggle down the loch road which is beautiful in itself.

Parks & Nature
You can see the monument to the North of the Bird Hide. To get there, cross the main road and walk 100 to your left and turn right on to the forestry track Follow this, and when it turns steeply uphill you go LEFT at this point on to the short muddy unused section which soon opens out again (wellies or boots needed). It takes just over an hour, amazing views, take a flask and sandwich.
