Be aware: you might get addicted to these gorgeous Falafels – like I did! Imagine Falafel-Heaven with their “Original”, “House”, “American” and “Mexican” Falafels (2,50-2,80 EUR), all fresh ingredients, in a soft wrap and made to order in a bright and clean place with friendly staff – you can sit outside amongst the countless locals and enjoy or take away your Falafels.

This yard is only known to the locals. Even if you pass by it, you won't notice it. Behind a blue door, there is a narrow corridor which leads to a graphical yard. The place is very traditional and takes you back to Greece of the 50's. Painted white and blue, with a few tables, greek music and wine, it looks like nothing you've seen.

Unique in Athens, there is a limited number of seats around the chef who prepares rolls in front of you. Menu depends on what fresh fish they could get from the market. You can order what's on the menu or let the chef suggest what you should try. Chef and staff extremely friendly without being annoying. The food is excellent. Be sure to call for reservation.

This is the most authentic and fun taverna There is no sign so you have to really seek it out. Double wood doors lead to a rustic cellar lined up with wine barrels. The restaurant has 130 years history and an owner of the restaurant works under his father since 1957. The owner, will serve you whatever he decides you need, you don´t come to select from a menu here, it ´s as if you dropped by an old friend and have for lunch whatever there is (if you kindly ask for it and show enthusiasm, maybe he can do you the favor to select a dish or two).

Drinks & Nightlife

The unsuspected visitor of the historic center of Athens cannot miss the hundreds of colorful bottles and lights that decorate the walls of "Brettos". “BRETTOS” is the oldest distillery in Athens. It started operating for the first time back in 1909 at the ground level of an Athenian old mansion in the heart of Plaka. At those premises, his founder Mr Michael Brettos, started producing ouzo, brandy and few liqueur flavors, from the old time classics like cherry and pepermint to the most distinct ones like citrus and masticha, using old family recipes from Smyrni (Izmir, Turkey).

Excellent small museum Perhaps the most interesting museum in Athens. The museum is small, but there are excellently preserved things from the ancient Cycladic art (second floor); on the third floor there are works of art from ancient Greece (Bronze Age, Geometric period, Archaic period to Roman times). On the third floor there is an extremely interesting collection from Cyprus.

Greece is considered the cradle of Western civilization, being the birthplace of democracy, Western philosophy, the Olympic Games, Western literature, historiography, political science, major scientific and mathematical principles and Western drama. It is, of course, the land of ancient sites and architectural treasures. The Acropolis of Athens is the epitome of all this. It has more than one attraction. When you arrive you see the Theatre of Dionysus, the Theatre of Herodes Atticus -rebuilt and with modern presentations-, The Propylaea or entrance, The Erechteum or Temple of Zeus and the impressive Parthenon, among other sites.

The church is a splendid example of architecture from the 11th-century Byzantine era. During this period, domed cruciform churches such as this one were typical. An incredible panoply of sights and sounds While perhaps not one of Athens' best known tourist attractions, the Central Market deserves a place in the top ten of any ravenous carnivore. Occupying a significant portion of a city block, the market is arranged by land and sea. The periphery of the market is given over to meat. Vendor after vendor of meat of all variety is a feast for the senses - hanging beef, pork, goat, rabbit - it's all there. The center of the building is entirely devoted to seafood!
