In addition to the designated indoor Jade Market on Shanghai Street in Yau Ma Tei, you can also walk down Jade Street to the south of here. It is located along Canton Road between Kansu (north) and Jordan Road (south). This street is lined with Jade specialists and other gemstone and jewellery shops. There is an interesting monument on the corner of Canton Road and Jordan Road. This is the Hong Kong Giant Jade Stone that originated in Burma. It weighs 4,000 kg and was placed here in 2010 by the Hong Kong Jade Association. There is an information panel next to the giant jade stone where you can read up a bit on the history of the Jade trade here in Hong Kong.

This Tin Hau Temple is part of a five building complex situated directly on Nathan Road in the Yau Ma Tei district of Hong Kong. This is a Grade I historic building and one of the most interesting of the many temples dedicated to Tin Hau, goddess of the city, which you can conveniently visit within the city. Each of the five buildings has a separate entrance, all of which are accessible from public square situated to the westside of the complex. Opening hours are 8am to 5pm daily.

The Yau Ma Tei Theatre was built in 1930 and is the oldest surviving pre-WWII theatre in Hong Kong. During its heyday, this was also the largest theatre house in Kowloon. It is a Grade II historical property that remained in operation until 1998 before being closed. The historic theatre house was restored and reopened in 2012 and is now a venue where you can watch Cantonese opera performances. Tickets available through box office at the Yau Ma Tei Theatre or through the URBTIX website. The building is architecturally interesting from the outside. It includes a simple Art Deco facade, Dutch gable walls and two decorative columns fronting the theatre interest.

This is a small urban park situated east of Austin Station and west of Jordan Station on the Kowloon Peninsula. It is 1.5 acres in size and one of two parks in Hong Kong dedicated to King George V. The other is in Sai Ying Pun on Hong Kong Island. The Kowloon park was opened in 1941 and originally included a statue of King George V. However, it along with the park facilities were destroyed during the Japanese occupation. After WWII, traditional Chinese pavilion structures were built within the park grounds. You can also see a traditional Chinese style park entrance on the north side as well as some nice landscaping with wooden pavilion and grotto rock formations. Plenty of park benches with fair shade from the mature trees found within the park grounds. Football pitch and children's playground area round out the King George V Park in Kowloon. On the whole, it is a nice little urban park and opportunity for area residents to escape the busy street scenes on all sides. Worth a few minutes for a brief sit down if in the area and in need of a rest. Otherwise, you're not too far from the much larger and interesting Kowloon Park around 5 minutes walk south if this is what you are looking for.

Yue Hwa is a Hong Kong based department store & group of emporium shops that specialise in Chinese products, quite a bit different to other HK based department stores like Wing On, Sincere, AEON and the likes. This is their flagship place along Nathan Road that is open from 10am to 10pm daily. What you will find here is a huge five storey place filled with traditional Chinese items ranging from traditional herbal medicines, traditional clothing, furniture, art, instruments, jade, jewellery, household items as well as other more western type items. It is a neat place to walk through if you want to see what a department store and emporium might look like on the mainland.

Very good value for money and delicious food. We had the HK$90 set menu for which we got a decent portion of curry, a black lentil dahl, a green vegetable dish, two excellent roti and a spoonful of chutney. Choice of various curries on the set menu and we had the vegetarian. You are asked to choose your preferred level of spiciness. We chose medium, which to our pallid western tastes was fairly hot. Good choice of beers at reasonable prices, including Nepalese beers. Quick friendly service. Highly recommended.

Mamaday Studio is probably one of the most interestingly designed cafes in the area. Taking up a whole old style colonial Hong Kong walk up buiding, the place not only allows you to see the architecture but also the whimsical decor inside. It's a cafe so you expect cafe style food: cakes and light bites along with various types of coffee and creative drinks. Order at the ground floor and you return your plates back to where you ordered along with disposing your own trash. It's cash only. English menu available. Then you take your order upstairs where the seats are located everywhere. They own two cats so you must remember to lock the gate to the upstairs area long with closing any doors to the balcony area to prevent them from jumping out. I came here for cake. Apparently they have seasonal cakes so you should ask what is the daily offerings. They are really good along and available as a whole cake for take away as well. Coffee is good but definiitely try the Tofu & Tofu Ice Cream coffee based drink. A shot of espresso with bits of tofu blended in and a scoop of delicious tofu ice cream.

Famous 糖水, local Chinese desserts. There was a long queue when we got there, though it moved pretty fast. They've got many Michelin accolades hanging on the wall and photos of celebrities that have visited. The Black Sesame Paste is really good, silky smooth and not too sweet. I loved the tang yuan even more, perfectly sized for you to have it in 1 mouth, having the black sesame filling burst into flavours and not leaking onto your spoon. Worth the queue and calories!

Kane Tsuru is a major ramen chain in Hong Kong. This small joint is at the sleepy end of Tsim Sha Tsui. Chicken broth is the highlight here. Tsukemen, or dipping noodles, is some of the best in town.

opened for more than 60 years. If you look at their story how the family built up this business, their hard-working, dedication and focus, are very heart-warming and inspirational. Starting as a street vendor, this traditional noodle shop has not moved from this location in Parkes Street, nor they did open any branches. The brightly lit setting, booth seats on both sides with the small tables in the middle, offer a friendly and familiar ambience of the 1980-90s. Each of us started with the signature Wonton Noodle in Soup ($40). The wontons are made daily with only prawns, so on each bite was a satisfying crunchy prawn meat with great seasoning. The noodle is also meticulous, homemade from scratch by the shop, with a great texture, and the broth is a flavour bomb, full of umami and not overly salty. It was so good I finished the whole serving in a matter of minutes. The reputation is well-earned in my opinion.

old time restaurant which has been around since 1880's. It was a wonderful lunch with old Macau favorites with Portugal influence. I had the Curry Chicken lunch special and it was great.

This is one of the best Indian restaurants in Hong Kong. Curry Leaf is an upscale place at a quiet corner of Kowloon. In contrast to the urban bust at Nathan Road, it is like a quiet oasis. Food is delicious and authentic. Mutton samosa is crispy with rich, flavorful lamb filling. Paneer pakora, or fried cottage cheese, is light with a refreshing tamarind sauce. Tandoori mixed grill, with lamb, chicken, fish and seekh kebab, is a paradise for meatlovers. The meat is aromatic, succulent and not burnt. Prawn Anarkali, a house specialty, is mild and optimally spicy. Gulab jamun, a staple dessert, is served hot. Service is nice and careful to details. Price is very reasonable

One MICHELIN Star: High quality cooking, worth a stop! Michelin-starred restaurant. It is worth visiting again not because of Michelin but it's excellent food, services and reasonable price. The dim sums starting at HK$38 are of very fine quality. You could have very traditional dim sum such as deep fried taro dumpling and shreffed turnip puff pastry. Such dim sum are not easily found in other restaurants in Hong Kong as only very experienced dim sum master could make them. Another dish you should miss is shrimp in steamed egg white. Tasty and affordable (HK$80).
