Hungry Mother Island is a unique three bedroom cabin on its own island surrounded by Hungry Mother Creek at Hungry Mother State Park in Marion, VA. Located off the Back of the Dragon Trail & bordered by Hungry Mother State Park along with George Washington & Jefferson National Forest. Nearby multiple wilderness areas, superb mountain stream fishing, small lake fishing, swimming area & beach, wildlife management areas & miles of trails offer tons of natural amenities and outdoor opportunities.

Secluded Retreat in the Blue Ridge Mountains

In the Jefferson National Forest’s 'Mount Rogers National Recreation Area', and with expansive scenic views of Whitetop Mountain and Mount Rogers, Dongola Cabin is a cozy and secluded retreat -- perfect for writers and creatives seeking inspiration and solitude, couples wanting romantic getaways, solo travellers, digital nomads, astronomy enthusiasts, etc. About 30 minutes from the bustling towns of Damascus and Abingdon, the Cabin offers a restive getaway w/ many opportunities for activities.

NO CLEANING FEES. NO TO DO LISTS BEFORE CHECKING OUT. NO PET FEES. Cozy, private one room cottage (with bathroom), run by a loving, easy-going, non-judging family. Cottage measures 12' x 24' (total of 288sq. feet). Very relaxed environment. Flat rate of $50.00. UPDATE: Deck is now enclosed with old window panes. Super cozy. Has a sink with hot/old water, a hot plate, large toaster oven, and utensils. I am am still putting finishing touches on it, but available for use. Pictures soon.

Bring your bikes and ride the Back of the Dragon ( space to park a trailer at the home), spend the day at Hungry Mother, visit your Emory & Henry student for the weekend or make a 40 minute drive and try your luck at the new Hard Rock casino in Bristol. Marion is the perfect location for outdoor lovers. 15 minutes from Mount Rogers visitor center and the AT.

Relax around the campfire, hike or bike the many trails, lounge on the beach with a good book, or cast your line to catch a big one! Enjoy the beautiful views of the Appalachian mountains while paddleboarding or kayaking Hungry Mother Lake. Don't forget to go shopping or sample the restaurants of America's Coolest Hometown! On 6 wooded acres in a private mountain river cove outside Damascus, VA , our cozy, renovated 3-story A-frame cottage property fronts the cliff-flanked, trout-rich South Fork Holston River. The cottage features 3 spacious bedrooms, each on its own level; a fully equipped kitchen; great room; dining room; laundry room; and a 2nd-floor loft accessing the 16'-wide balcony. A 20' x 12' deck offers space for outdoor relaxing and dining and opens to the large yard with fire pit.

Resting on an acre of land and right off I 81 enjoy your stay in our cozy, country cottage.

Kick back and relax in this calm, stylish space looking out into the pasture and woodlands at deer passing through, cows looking in and other wildlife. And there really is quite a lot of bluebirds and finch to see in the spring and summer! Expect the coziness of the fireplace to wrap around you in the cool of the fall and snow of the winter. New construction. 20 minutes to Grayson Highlands, kayaking and Virginia Creeper bike trail also nearby!
