We’d love for your happy beach memories to be made here at our cottage by the sea, The Whimsy Whale. Our island cottage is perfectly placed under a canopy of magnificent live oaks, about 300 steps away from the ocean. Nestled on a quiet beach access street, central to all the best attractions, shopping and eateries on Oak Island; close to attractions in Southport. It is one of our favorite places to spend time together and we look forward to sharing it with you, your loved ones and friends.

Southport's Canary Cottage

Southport's Canary Cottage is a newly renovated southern, cottage located in a small, historic town along the Cape Fear River! Canary Cottage is located 1 mile from Southport, 2 minutes from the ferry's at Deep Point Marina & 20 minutes to the Oak Island beaches! While in Southport, enjoy the shops, the majestic Live Oaks, dine at fabulous cafes & restaurants with water views, take a carriage ride, watch the boats go by, go on a ghost walk or tour a museum. Southport has something for eveyone!

Happy's Place Downtown Southport

This is my uncle Happy's place. It is in historic downtown Southport, walking distance from restaurants, shopping, and the Cape Fear river. Located on a quaint alley just off the town's main street, this happy little cottage is nestled among large live oaks and in the shadow of Southport's iconic water tower. The home has one bedroom with a queen bed. The living area has a twin bed and two chairs. There is a full kitchen and small bathroom. Southport’s beautiful waterfront and parks await.

The Historic Backdoor Cottage in Southport, NC

The charming Backdoor Cottage is located in the Historic District of Southport, NC. It's named the Backdoor Cottage because you park and enter through the backdoor into the living space. It is within walking distance of the whole Historic District including the waterfront, restaurants, shops, churches and art galleries. Much of the art work in the cottage was done by local artists. "Just Enough" Beach Home! Screened Front Porch

"Just Enough" is just a short 3 blocks to the sand and the ocean for a great start to your relaxing dream vacation. Inner Coastal Waterway and Nature Center are on opposite end of 52nd Street. Relax on the enclosed screen front porch and listen to the ocean waves in the evening. The home has all new furniture, decor and bedding for you to enjoy. Kitchen is fully equipped and ready should you feel like cooking. "Just Enough" has everything you need to enjoy your time away from home.

Pinch of Peace, Dogs Welcome!

This is a custom built dog friendly family beach house on the quiet west side of Oak Island, a five minute drive or bike ride to the beach, and one block to the Intercostal Waterway. Artfully decorated, with a fully equipped kitchen, safely fenced back yard for dogs, screened back porch, super dog friendly beach, and a tiny house in back with one bed, sleeping; this house is a place for beach lovers who appreciate comfort and art and want their pooches along with them.

Waterside Cottage 'HoriZen'

This is a recently renovated rustic 1947 cottage with an outstanding view of and access to the Intracoastal Waterway. It is perfect for meditation or quiet time by the water's edge, or for fishing, art, reading, writing, kayaking or paddleboarding. It is close to Wilmington, Wrightsville Beach, Topsail Island and Hampstead where there is shopping, restaurants, outdoor and cultural activities and beautiful beaches. It's old, but it is full of charm!

MILE TO THE ISLE 1.8 miles to Holden Beach bridge

Renovated and Immaculate comfortable beach cottage in a quiet neighborhood yet just 1.8 miles from the Holden Beach bridge. Shopping and dining are 15 minutes away in Shallotte. Myrtle Beach and Wilmington are both within an hours drive. If you prefer to relax, you can sit on the 10' x 22' deck just outside the kitchen door, or by the fire pit, on a rocking chair or the swing in the open back yard, which is ideal for playing fetch with your dog.

Pier Joy is a charming beach cottage nestled in the historic Yaupon area of Oak Island. You can walk to the sand, surf, and iconic Oak Island Pier in less than 10 minutes! Our large fenced back yard is perfect for families to gather around the firepit or play a game of corn hole. We believe dogs are members of the family and gladly welcome up to two in the cottage. This is your place for peace, comfort, and Pier JOY!
