Thames offers many attractions: visit museums and mines, walk the bush tracks, swim in the river or up the coast, dine in a diversity of restaurants/cafe's, go to the Saturday market, and ride the rail trail.

Bring the whole family, or pack up the fishing tackle and bring your boat and fishing buddies - this place has it all. Relax on one of the 2 expansive decks, listen to the birds as you enjoy the peace of the surrounding bush-clad hills. Cook up your catch and dine alfresco or enjoy a hearty meal at the local pub just around the corner. A classic kiwi bach in a tranquil setting away from the crazy hustle and bustle. Each site is convenated by QEII National Trust who describe Mahakirau "outstanding for it's ecology and wildlife value with brown kiwi, kaka, Hochsetetter's and Archey's frogs all present". A spacious house in a bush setting, sit back and relax, take a bush walk down to the stream on the property and star gaze at night.
