Historic OId Salem is the first settlement in the area and is home to the oldest women's college in the US, Salem College. Nice little shops and a Salem Tavern is a good place to have a bite to eat.

17th Century Moravian village with a living museum. Also home to the country's oldest continuously operating Girl's School.
