Glasgow is Scotland's biggest city and as such is crammed with places to visit, eat and experience during any type of stay. For visitors it is best to think of the city as split into 4 main areas, the City Centre, the West End, the East End and the Southside. The City Centre has everything you would expect from a modern city; bus and railway transport links, great shopping, loads of places to eat and drink as well as some cultural highlights (George Square and City Council Chambers, Duke of Wellington statue aka the man on a horse with a traffic cone on his head(!), Glasgow Cathedral and many of the many bridges that cross the Clyde). The West End, East End and Southside parts of the city all have a park at its centre...Glasgow after all means 'dear green place' in Scots Gaelic! For the West End this is Kelvingrove Park which borders the main University of Glasgow campus and is where the Kelvingrove Museum is situated. For the East End Glasgow Green is the main green space where the People's Palace and the West Brewery can be visited. Emirates Arena containing velodrome that hosted cycling events at Commonwealth Games in 2014 is located in the East End. If you are a fan of football, Celtic Park is situated right across the road! For the Southside Queen's Park is the located at its heart however Glasgow's biggest park, Pollok Park is not too far away and this is the home of Burrell Collection (newly renovated and opened in March 2022). The areas of Shawlands, Battlefield and Strathbungo all border Queens Park and offer visitor lots of trendy eateries and bars to drink in. If you like late night entertainment then The Shed nightclub is a must over a weekend. Again if you like football, Scotland's National stadium Hampden is located in the southside and is home to Scotland National Football Museum.
