This is our go-to date night restaurant. We love the cellar-like feel and ambiance. The food is delicious and they have an incredible wine selection. Our favorite menu item is the Bourbon Pecan Chicken. A close second is the Shrimp N' Grits. Great food, great atmosphere.

The Root Cellar Café sits on the bottom floor of the historic Donaldson building, which has known many faces. originally it was “G.W. Donaldson & Co. Hardware Store” and later “Bond’s Café and Restaurant” in the 1930’s. Root Cellar is part of the rich history of San Marcos, Texas.

Yum, yum. reservations are a must. There fried asparagus is so good. Good wines, good food. Historic building.
