As a platform and marketplace we do not provide legal advice, but we want to give you some useful links that may help you better understand laws and regulations in the Town of Vail, Colorado. Short-term rental regulations

The Town’s Short-Term Rental Ordinance requires anyone renting their property for less than 30 consecutive days to obtain a short-term rental registration. As part of the registration process, the applicant must submit a signed affidavit acknowledging life safety, parking, trash, and noise regulations. The applicant must also designate a local property contact within a 60-minute distance of the short-term rental unit, who is available 24/7 week to respond to complaints. Short-term rental properties are also required to have individual Town of Vail sales tax licenses and file periodic returns, even zero returns.

Registration process

Step 1: Compile all of the required documents. This process requires a notarized self-compliance affidavit; a signed STR local representative authorization form; a copy of the designated local representative’s driver’s license; and proof of notification to adjoining residential units (if applicable). Property managers are required to obtain a separate business license.

Step 2: Complete a registration application. You can complete your short-term rental registration application online here.

Step 3: Post your registration number to your Airbnb listing. Once you receive your short-term rental registration number from the Town, post it in all of your listing advertisements.

Other rules

It's also important to understand and abide by other contracts or rules that bind you, such as leases, condo board or co-op rules, HOA rules, or rules established by tenant organizations. Please read your lease agreement and check with your landlord if applicable.
