The maiden house fits in with the other 16th/17th century museums in Antwerp. However, while the other museums mostly focus on paintings or printed books, here the history of the maiden house itself takes center stage. The building is not as nicely decorated as the other museums, since the orphans were probably raised in modest circumstances. Nevertheless, the chapel is quite nice to see, with some huge paintings that give an impression of what life here may have been like. To me another highlight are the 16th century and other old documents. The inner court is also quite nice. I think they should be able to elaborate more on the history of the building...

If you visit all the museums do not forget to visit this small museum in the historic building of an old orphanage for girls (virgin orphanage).

Het Maagdenhuis in Antwerpen is een voormalig weeshuis voor meisjes en thans een administratief gebouw van het OCMW in Antwerpen. Het architecturaal interessant gebouw dateert uit de 16e-17e eeuw.
