This conservancy is part of Mt Elgon and Cherangani hills ecosystem. This grasslands and woodlands used to be home of abundant wildlife that were wiped out through hunting. Its effort now reveal a host of Kongoni, Sitatunga, Bongo, Black Rhino, elephants, Reed Buck and Rothschild giraffes.

UNESCO declared Kit Mikayi rock world heritage site: is a shrine according to legends associated with good fortunes of the Luo people and the communities that live around it. The site educates tourists on ancestral history of the Luo ethnic group. Kit-Mikayi means “ The stone of the first wife” in the Luo language.

Kit Mikayi is a rock formation, a Tor, around 40 m high situated about 29km west of the town of kisumu in western Kenya. Kit Mikayi means the stone of the first woman or stone of the first wife in Dholuo, the luo language.

It is a large rock formation, with about 3 rocks on top. It is situated approximately 29 kilometres from Kisumu Town. It is a sacred site amongst the locals who live there. They conduct prayers and fasting sessions at the facility. It is also a pilgrimage site for the Legio Maria sect. There is a picnic area just below the rocks where you can spend some quality time with your family or friends.
