The start point of the Wakamarina Track. Worth a drive up the valley in this former gold mining hot spot and the local council have installed some interpretive signs up the valley. These tell the story of gold rush to the area in the 1860's. Butchers Flat is a good place for a swim or you can walk up the Wakamarina Track for 30mins to Doom Creek Bridge which is pretty spectacular. You can continue on up from there to Devil's Creek Hut which is about 90mins from the Bridge. Some beautiful bush on the way up and the hut is an old school Forest Service one, plus there is an older historic slab hut behind the new hut which is very cool. Beware the sandflies at Butcher's Flat.
