The classic scenic loop walk from Karangahake. Unfortunately due to damage by Cyclone Gabrielle not all of this walk is available at present

Along the track visitors can observe relics of the many processes that took place in extracting gold - from the tunnels to pits. Tip: Ensure you stop at the Visitor Centre at the Waikino Cafe to look at the old black and white photos to get an idea of the size of the community that flourished during the gold mining era. Directions: Just off SH2 between Paeroa and Waihi. The walk starts in the Karangahake Gorge carpark area. Time: About an hour round trip, though it's easy to linger longer.

wow I adore telling guests about this awesome adventure !!! its not a long walk but gosh has it got some scenery and spectacular mining remnants - and its the disused mining tunnels that we head to explore. Kids will love this!!! You will need to take a torch and watch out for the abandoned mine shafts. Walking through the karangahake Gorge is an exploreres delight. Old train tracks that carried the quarts out to the noisy batteries. steam boilers, tunnels dug deep with dynamite and shovel.
