The Academic bookstore building was designed by Alvar Aalto, the acclaimed Finnish modernist. There's a nice café on the second floor.

I find Akateeminen kirjakauppa to be one of the best book/stationary (notebooks, pens, arts...) stores in Helsinki, so I definitely reccomend you check it out if you are into that sort of thing :)

One of the biggest stores in Helsinki. Lets see how long we still have Stockmann, so visit it as long as it lasts! ;) The downstairs grocery store (Stockan herkku) has already been sold to S-market, the bookstore Akateeminen to Bonniers and electronics department rented to Power and.. ;-(
